Shares slump on banking stocks

Vietnamese slumped on Monday morning with the VN-Index closing lower as banking stocks came under selling pressure towards the final minutes of trading.

 

The benchmark VN-Index on the Hồ Chí Minh Stock Exchange was down 1.36 per cent to close at 1,311.35 points.

More than 430.2 million shares were traded on the southern bourse, worth VNĐ14 trillion (US$646 million).

Market breadth was positive with 98 gaining stocks and 282 losers.

Many big bank stocks had poor performance such as Techcombank (TCB), HDBank (HDB), Military Bank (MBB), Vietinbank (CTG), Sacombank (STB), Vietcombank (VCB) and Asia Commercial Bank (ACB).

On the Hà Nội Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index lost 0.27 per cent to end Monday morning at 337.15 points.

More than 99 million shares were traded on the northern market, worth VNĐ2.3 trillion.
