Largest fishing port in Central Vietnam shuts down for Covid-19 safety

Tho Quang Fishing Port in Danang’s Son Tra District, which is the largest fishing port in the central region, suspended its operations for seven days starting at 3 p.m. yesterday, July 26, for disinfection and the implementation of Covid-19 preventive measures.

The Management Board of the Tho Quang Wharf and Fishing Port had informed local residents of the suspension of the Tho Quang fishing port and wholesale fisheries market.

Nguyen Lai, deputy head of the management board, told Tuoi Tre newspaper that the amount of fish currently stored at the fishing port is over 235 tons. This volume excluded the fish stocks at the cold storage of the neighboring companies and households. Thus, the fish reserves are sufficient for the people of Danang during the port’s closure.

As for fishing boats set to leave the port yesterday, the management board will allow them to conduct logistics works, receive products and ask them to leave the port by yesterday.

The management board was coordinating with the Son Tra District Border Guard to inform other fishing boats of the suspension and instruct them to arrive at other fishing ports to trade fish and unload seafood during the Tho Quang fishing port’s closure.

The Tho Quang Fishing Port is the main distribution point of fish for localities in the region, with a daily throughput of an average 250 tons. It opens twice every day: 0 a.m.- 6 a.m. and 12 p.m.-3 p.m.
