Lazada opens global gates for Vietnamese companies

Lazada, one of Vietnam’s five leading e-commerce platforms, has implemented many programs to support small- and medium-sized enterprises, facilitating their access to global markets especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Practical support

Lazada has cooperated with banks to bring forward preferential loan packages, helping sellers overcome difficulties or expand their scale. Tran Lam, owner of Julyhouse, has made good use of this policy to invest in the production of hand sanitizers. Lam said the profit from hand sanitizers has helped the company develop other items, such as HeVieFood and hair care products.

James Dong, general director of Lazada Vietnam, said Lazada has made many changes to adapt to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and will continue to accompany brands and sellers in 2021.

The number of sellers and brands coming on board doubled in 2020. In the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, Lazada deployed an economic stimulus package for 110,000 small- and medium-sized enterprises. In addition, Lazada University announced cooperation with Google in November 2020 to organize free digital training courses for online sellers, helping improve their sales.

At an innovative startup promotion conference on motivating businesses’ transformation on e-commerce platforms, held in November 2020, the National Agency for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Development, the Newspaper of Industry and Trade and Lazada Vietnam signed a memorandum of understanding to support innovative startups in opening e-commerce pavilions and putting their products on the platform. In particular, the Danish Embassy in Vietnam and Lazada Vietnam signed a memorandum of understanding on an exclusive partnership to provide consumers in Vietnam with access to Danish brands and products online. With this signing, the first e-commerce Danish pavilion in Vietnam has been established to showcase merchants, brands and premium quality products of various Danish brands.

Effective marketing

Lazada has provided support for about 150,000 firms to do business on its e-commerce platform, including free membership, free training on online sales, and preferential shipping costs.

In 2020, Lazada Vietnam had made greater efforts to accompany brands, sellers and consumers to overcome challenges posed by Covid-19. Those included developing new categories, diversifying items on the platform to better serve consumer needs and offering free shipping.

In December 2020, Lazada Vietnam awarded the Lazada Brand Awards to 12 outstanding brands, including Xiaomi, Abbott, Adidas, Kiehl’s, La Roche-Posay, Samsung, TCL, Tefal, Unilever, GUMAC, JBL and Lock&Lock.

In 2021, Lazada will continue to be the business platform for several hundred thousand brands and sellers, promote initiatives to optimize customer experience, and improve logistics towards same-day delivery with lowest costs.

With the largest payment and logistics network in the region, Lazada has contributed to accelerating development of the digital economy in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. In 2020, the number of users on Lazada in Southeast Asia reached 310 million.
