Da Nang opens new post-Covid window for manufacturers

hanks to the advanced technology and machinery provided in 2020 by the industry promotion program, enterprises in the central coastal city of Da Nang are confident of recovering production once the Covid-19 pandemic subsides.

Improving product quality

The Nguyen Van Toan household business in the Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village at the foot of Da Nang’s famous Marble Mountain was one typical recipient of the industry promotion program. In the past, it used a semi-automatic turning lathe, which could only turn out 3-4 stone products a day, most of them fragile and inaccurate.

With funding from the industry promotion program, the establishment invested in automatic lathes worth nearly VND800 million, including VND140 million from the local industry promotion budget. The automatic lathe can turn out eight products simultaneously, enhancing productivity by 10-20 times, guaranteeing proportional accuracy, ensuring aesthetics, reducing production time and thus increasing customer satisfaction significantly, Toan explained.

According to Huynh Ngoc Trung, Director of the Bich Hanh Technology Joint Stock Company, the company received funding from the national industry promotion program three times for a total amount of VND700 million. In 2020, the company invested in a laser cutting machine with a total budget of more than VND2.2 billion, of which the national industry promotion program provided VND300 million. The investment in machinery optimized the company’s production activities, saving time, increasing efficiency and accuracy and improving productivity by replacing manual labor.

Promoting rural industrial development

Vice Chair of the People's Committee of Hoa Vang District Nguyen Thuc Dung said the Industry and Trade programs in general and industry promotion policies in particular, have helped many businesses grow. The industry promotion program has also helped promote industrial and handicraft development and encouraged local enterprises to invest and develop. In addition to industry promotion activities, the Department of Industry and Trade and other units should train business owners in business development leadership, advertising and production capacity improvement, Dung said.

According to Le Thanh Ha, Director of the Da Nang Industry and Trade Promotion Center, the impact of Covid-19 delayed delivery of the new acquired machinery but once the epidemic was controlled, the center handed over machinery and equipment to seven beneficiaries of the program, helping them embark on quickly resuming production.

Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thi Thuy Mai said the industry and trade sector always strives to support businesses not only in industry promotion but also in trade promotion and training activities.
