Malaysia’s Maybank gets awards for Cambodia performance

Maybank (Cambodia) Plc nabbed three awards recognising its exceptional performance in the Kingdom, it said in a January 1 press release.

Asiamoney Best Bank Awards 2020 presented it the “Best International Bank Cambodia 2020”, while Global Banking Finance Awards 2020 gave it the “Best CSR [corporate social responsibility] Bank Cambodia 2020” and “Best Retail Bank Cambodia 2020”, Maybank Cambodia said.

The Malaysian-owned lender noted that it received honourable recognition in October by the Retail Banker International Asia Trailblazer Awards 2020 for its “Best Retail Bank – Cambodia” and “Best CSR Initiative” prizes.

Maybank Cambodia CEO Mohd Hanif Suadi said in the release: “These recognitions underscore Maybank’s sustained efforts in building closer relationships with our stakeholders and focusing on delivering consistent value through all our products and services.

“Our regional strength, brand reputation and mission of humanising financial services have been the driving force in cultivating engagement platforms that connect with our stakeholders as well as positively impacting the communities we serve.

“By staying true to these values, we continuously drive the Cambodian banking industry, and constantly prioritise our customers’ financial security and communities’ wellbeing in everything we do, to ensure that we provide a consistent brand experience for all.”

Maybank Cambodia said the awards showcase its role in boosting economic growth and helping communities be more sustainable.

It said: “Maybank’s strategy is focused on areas where it believes it can make a significant difference in fulfilling its customers’ and communities’ ambitions, supporting businesses – big and small – to succeed in Cambodia and beyond as well as empowering its employees.”

It listed its key achievements as its foreign-exchange services, digital platforms Maybank2U (M2U) and Maybank2E (M2E), and a memorandum of understanding with the National Bank of Cambodia on cross-border payment and remittance between the Kingdom and Malaysia.

And when Covid-19 gripped the Kingdom, it supported government initiatives to tackle the pandemic, provided restructuring and rescheduling of financing facilities and implemented a moratorium on loan repayments for impacted customers, according to the release.

In collaboration with social enterprise Color Silk, the lender’s Maybank Women Eco-Weavers programme trained more than 250 Cambodian women weavers and produced over 110,000 hand-woven face masks made of pure cotton and silk, the release said.

Maybank Cambodia said it worked with the government to raise financial literacy among Cambodia, and that its “CashVille Kidz Financial Literacy Program” was featured on the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport’s digital learning platform.

Hanif said: “Being deeply rooted in the communities we serve, we believe our success inherently tied to our communities’ achievements, which is why our stakeholders’ needs and experience will remain a key priority for us.

“We dedicate the awards to our customers, employees and all stakeholders for their support, trust and confidence in Maybank Cambodia.”
