Cotton Day Vietnam to promote partnership with US this year

The annual Cotton Day Vietnam to promote links between garment and textile companies and cotton suppliers and experts in Viet Nam and the US will be held on September 22.

It will be held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Attendees will take part in the fair and a conference on the global cotton industry amid the disease outbreak, the industry’s latest development trends in the US and solutions to overcome the difficulties caused by the pandemic amid the ‘new normal.’

It will be organised by the US Cotton Council International in Vietnam and the Vietnam Textile & Apparel Association.

Vo Manh Hung of the CCI said the event would help mitigate difficulties in trading faced by US and Vietnamese cotton enterprises due to the pandemic since the beginning of this year.

Vu Duc Giang, chairman of the Vietnam Textile & Apparel Association, said US cotton companies are always interested in Viet Nam while US cotton is popular with Viet Nam’s growing garment and textile industry.

Viet Nam is the third largest cotton importer in the world, buying 1.5 million tonnes a year, more than 800,000 tonnes of it from the US.

“Vietnamese enterprises like US cotton because of its stable quality,” Giang said.

Their garment and textile exports in the first eight months of this year was were down 13.5 per cent from the same period last year to US$19 billion.

The first Cotton Day Vietnam was organised in 2017.
