Vietnam to approve national strategy on digital technology business development soon

The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) is drafting the prime minister’s decision approving the national strategy on the development of digital technology businesses by 2030.

Vietnam to approve national strategy on digital technology business development soon
Vietnam will have 70,000 digital technology firms by 2025

The draft highlight four kinds of digital technology to be focused for development, including core technology development businesses, businesses of digital technology products, businesses of digital technology solutions, and digital technology startups.

Vietnam’s digital technology businesses will be developed in line with the “Make in Vietnam” strategy, striving to increase expertise in technology, initiatives in design and production of digital products, as well as in the creation of new services, solutions, and new business models, while boosting cooperation with foreign technology partners.

Under the draft, by 2025,the country aims to have 70,000 digital technology firms; train a workforce of 1.2 million for digital technology; export turnover growth of 10-20 per cent annually among digital technology firms on average; contribution of 10 per cent to the country’s GDP; and achieving the country’s ranking among the top three in the technology and innovation index named in ASEAN and top 70 globally.

By 2030, the country targets to have 100,000 digital technology firms; 1.5 million digital workforce; GDP contribution of 20 per cent; and making it into the top two in ASEAN and top 50 globally in the technology and innovation index.

The draft offers a number of solutions to realise these targets, including completing the legal framework to create an enabling environment for the development of digital technology firms; developing supporting policies and a dynamic market for digital technology firms; developing a database and ecosystem of advanced digital technology; as well as renovating human resources training models and the ways to employ digital technology.

Currently, the MIC is collecting ideas from ministries, businesses, and the people about the draft.
