Large-caps drive market up, Hoa Phat shares jump 6.4%

Shares increased slightly on Monday morning, driven by a few large-cap stocks.

 

The benchmark VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange gained 0.47 per cent to end at 830.0 points.

The VN-Index was up a total of 1.63 per cent last week.

The HNX-Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange fell 1.86 per cent to close at 106.99 points.

The northern market index lost a total of 0.91 per cent last week.

More than 183 million shares were traded on the two local exchanges, worth VND2.73 trillion (US$117 million).

Large-cap sector propelled the market growth in the morning session.

The large-cap tracker VN30-Index increased by 0.67 per cent to 779.14 points with 17 of the 30 largest stocks by market value and trading liquidity advancing.

Steel producer Hoa Phat (HPG) led the sector by soaring 6.4 per cent.

Other gainers in the large-cap basket included PetroVietnam Gas (GAS), retailer Mobile World (MWG), Vietcombank (VCB) and property firm Vincom Retail (VRE).

The afternoon trading session starts at 1pm.
