Shares move up on banking stocks
Shares advanced on Friday morning thanks to the good performance of banking stocks.
The benchmark VN-Index on the Hồ Chí Minh Stock Exchange gained 0.22 per cent to end at 940.29 points on Friday morning.
The index had risen 0.06 per cent to close Thursday at 938.24 points.
More than 119.5 million shares were traded on the southern bourse on Thursday, valued at VND2 trillion (US$85.9 million).
Market breadth was negative as decliners outnumbered gainers by 192 to 141.
Ten out of 25 sectors on the market lost momentum.
Retail, agriculture, insurance, food and beverage, construction, oil and gas, and rubber production were among declining sectors.
The sector indices declined between 0.29 per cent and 1.13 per cent, according to vietstock.vn.
The gaining sectors included securities, banking, healthcare and logistics.
Top performing bankers were Asia Commercial Bank (ACB), increasing by 2.7 per cent to VNĐ26,200 per share, Military Bank (MBB), up by 1.4 per cent to VNĐ21,700 per share, Sabeco (SAB), up by 1.4 per cent to VNĐ7,300 per share, Techcombank (TCB), rising by 1.8 per cent to VNĐ23,000 per share, VPBank (VPB), gaining by 1.3 per cent to VNĐ26,950 per share.
The VN30-Index, which tracks the performance of the 30 largest stocks by market capitalisation and liquidity on HoSE, grew by 0.39 per cent to end the morning session at 867.54 points.
On the Hà Nội Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index climbed 1.39 to end Friday's morning session at 109.69 points.
The northern index had dropped 0.30 to end Thursday's session at 108.19 points.
More than 22.2 million shares were traded on the northern bourse for VND304 billion.
