Shares bounce back, led by banks

Shares bounced back on Tuesday morning, propped up by the banking sector.

 

The VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange edged up 0.13 per cent at 957.08 points.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index inched up 0.2 per cent at 101.43 points.

Big shares which declined on Monday recovered this morning, such as BIDV (BIDC), Vietinbank (CTG), Techcombank (TCB), Vietnam Prosperity Bank (VPB) and Military Bank (MBB) with growth of between 0.4 per cent and 1.9 per cent each.

Only Vietcombank (VCB) remained trading below the threshold, down 1.3 per cent.

Eighteen of the top 30 largest shares by market value and liquidity on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange(VN30) gained value and only nine lost.

Big losers included Vietjet (VJC), Coteccons Construction (CTD), logistics firm Gemadept (GMD), steelmaker Hoa Phat Group (HPG) and Mobile World Investment (MWG).

Liquidity improved with nearly 124 million shares worth VND3.5 trillion (US$152 million) being traded in the two markets.

The afternoon trade starts at 1pm.
