Vietnam Fair in Thailand 2019 opens up opportunities

Co-hosted by MM Mega Market Vietnam (MM) and Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Industry and Trade, the first Vietnam Fair in Thailand 2019 took place at the Big C Rajdamri Supercenter in downtown Bangkok from November 7-10, achieving positive initial results.

During the event, seven MoUs have been signed between Vietnamese enterprises and Big C to export Vietnamese goods for distribution in Thailand. The 35 Vietnamese pavilions at the event have attracted great attention from Thai consumers.

At the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Nguyen Hai Bang highly appreciated the first initiative to organise the Vietnam Fair in Thailand of Ho Chi Minh City and BJC (the owner of MM Mega Market in Vietnam and Big C in Thailand). He also affirmed that this is a good opportunity for Vietnamese products to access the Thai market through the distribution channel of over hundreds of Big C supermarkets.

Vietnam Fair in Thailand this year attracted the participation of 35 businesses with the top brands of Ho Chi Minh City, such as Trung Nguyen Legend, King Coffee, Bibica, Nutifood, Nakydako vegetable oil, Safoco, Dien Quang bulbs, Duy Tan plastics, Vita Jean, and Phong Phu textile.

Besides enterprises' booths, there was an area dedicated to displaying key products of Ho Chi Minh City such as garments, processed foods, confectionery, household plastics, briefcases, backpacks, bags, and ready-made powders.

On behalf of the organisers, Nguyen Huynh Trang, deputy director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, expressed belief that Vietnam Fair in Thailand 2019 would help the city’s enterprises with their product and brand promotion, trade connection, market expansion, direct access, and search for potential partners. Shebelieved it would also support the establishment of network agents, on-site distributors, market approach, consumer demand, and purchasing power as well as the need of goods distributors in Thailand, making the initial steps for Vietnamese goods to approach and develop in the Thai market.

In addition to the product display, the organisers have created B2B connection opportunities between Vietnamese and Thai businesses. The Vietnamese business delegation paid a visit to a hi-tech paper-manufacturing factory of BJC Group in Thailand.

As a remarkable outcome of the event, seven MoUs were signed between Big C Thailand and leading enterprises in the field of textiles, processed food, consumer goods in Vietnam, such as Phong Phu Textile and Garment, Blue Exchange, Thien Long Group, Tan Binh Vegetable Oil JSC, Sa Giang Food Company, Safoco Food JSC, and Tan Vuong Food Company.

At the signing ceremony, Pattaphong Iamsuro, commercial director of Big C Supercenter informed that the signing of these MoUs will entitle BJC Big C Group as the sole distributor of the selected Vietnamese products in Thailand. The main objectives are to build credibility to MM Mega Market (MM), the retailer of BJC Big C Group in Vietnam, to help open up business opportunities between Thailand and Vietnam, and to show the potential of BJC Big C Group in expanding into the ASEAN Economic Community market. Finally, this is also an opportunity to introduce new products working through increasing channels for more Vietnamese products entering into Thailand.

A representative of MM Mega Market said Vietnam is an important market for BJC Group in the region. Therefore, the company has implemented two strategies in parallel: One, to constantly improve the quality, services, and goods at MM Mega Market to best serve Vietnamese consumers; second, to assess Vietnamese products for export to nearly 1,000 Big C stores belonging to BJC Group in Thailand.

The goal to organise the event is to contribute to promoting trade opportunities between the two countries and help Vietnamese businesses export to Thailand, enabling Thai consumers to enjoy good quality products at reasonable prices from Vietnam.

Previously, in August, MM Mega Market Vietnam signed an MoU with the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade to facilitate the connection and sale of Vietnamese goods through the distribution system of MM Mega Market in Vietnam, and exports through the international distribution system of TCC Land International (Singapore) Pte., Ltd. and other subsidiaries belonging to BJC group.
