Three coffee brands win competition

Three local coffee brands won the Vietpresso 2019 competition aimed at enhancing the value of Vietnam-branded coffee on November 15.

There were 15 brands participating, namely Trung Nguyen, Dakmak, Legend Revived, Hello 5, Truong Son Coffee, Anh Coffee, Farm World Coffee, Lamant Coffee, Honee Coffee, Real Bean Coffee, Anni Coffee, Lion Coffee, Folliet, BonCafe and Cafe RuNam.

The 15 brands used coffee from Vietnam to make espresso with special recipes. Some high-quality coffee products were selected for the global market via the competition, contributing to promoting Vietnam’s coffee products among foreign consumers.

The winners of the competition, held within the framework of the Vietnam International Food Industry Exhibition 2019 (Vietnam Foodexpo 2019) on November 13 in HCMC, were Real Bean Coffee in first place, Trung Nguyen Legend in second place and Lamant Coffee in third place.

Ta Hoang Linh, head of the European-American Markets Department at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that Vietnam ranked second among the world’s coffee exporters and took the top spot for robusta coffee exports, but the country’s export value was not as high as expected.

In 2018, Vietnam earned US$3.5 billion for 1.88 million tons of coffee, a surge of 20% in volume but inching up a mere 1% in value versus the figures seen in 2017.

As such, building and developing a Vietnamese coffee brand, alongside boosting marketing and promotion programs for the local coffee industry, are top priorities, Linh said, adding that the competition was expected to name some of the best coffee products to market them to countries in Europe under Vietnam’s coffee marketing program in 2020.

Paul Le, export-import director of Central Retail Vietnam, which collaborated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to organize the competition, said that the event gave coffee manufacturers, traders and processers the opportunity to jointly promote Vietnam-branded coffee and consolidate the position of Vietnamese coffee in the global market.

Vietnam Foodexpo 2019 attracted 450 domestic and foreign enterprises from 23 countries and territories worldwide. The four-day exhibition featured 600 booths showcasing a variety of products, including vegetables, seafood, beverages, food materials, processed food and food-processing equipment.
