Samsung to recruit 3,000 Vietnamese engineers in 2022
South Korean tech giant Samsung is expected to recruit 3,000 Vietnamese engineers when its research and development (R&D) center opens in Hanoi in 2022, said Lee Jae-yong, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics.
Lee had a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Seoul today, November 28, as part of the Vietnamese leader’s ongoing official visit to South Korea, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
Samsung is now in the midst of building the R&D center in Hanoi, Lee said, asking the Vietnamese Government to provide continued support for the Korean firm in the construction process.
Lee said Samsung will need more high-tech engineers in the future. Those products of high added value, such as semiconductors, high-tech screens and smartphones, are being produced in alignment with market needs.
Praising Samsung’s investment in Vietnam, PM Phuc said the Vietnamese Government has created favorable conditions for the group to carry out its projects in the country.
The Prime Minister also expressed his hope that Samsung will maintain its production, export turnover and growth rate, thereby contributing to Vietnam’s socio-economic development.
Further, he said the Government is making efforts to improve the local business environment, and urged Samsung to build a semiconductor plant in the country.
The Government will offer incentives if Samsung invests in a semiconductor plant, he pledged.
He also asked Samsung to increase the sophistication of its locally-made content which, he said, still remains low, and help several Vietnamese firms integrate more deeply into its value chain.
Also on Thursday, PM Phuc had a meeting with leaders of machinery industry firm Hyundai Heavy Industries, construction engineering firm GS E&C and energy services provider GS Energy, which are each investing in Vietnam.
