Clearing customs at wharfs results in cost cutting

Enterprises can save at least VND2 million per container and hours of waiting if they complete customs procedures at wharfs, improving overall efficiency for the customs department and firms alike.

Under the customs procedures associated with logistics activities and cargo overload prevention at Cat Lai Port in a plan launched by the HCMC Department of Customs and Saigon Newport Corporation on November 13, enterprises can save VND350,000 for container storage per day, VND300,000 for the transfer of each container, VND1 million for container handling and VND400,000 for container lift on-lift off activities.

In addition, enterprises can shorten the time required for customs clearance by 70%.

At present, 200 enterprises that have strictly complied with the law and contributed significantly to the city’s budget revenue have been selected to participate in the plan.

Last year alone, these 200 enterprises reported a combined import value of US$21.7 billion, accounting for 38.58% of HCMC’s total import turnover. They paid VND54.76 trillion in taxes, more than half of the HCMC Department of Customs’ tax revenue.

In the future, the plan is expected to be applied to more enterprises in HCMC.

To execute the plan, the municipal Department of Customs and port operators have worked out multiple solutions, such as building an information exchange channel for the department, Saigon New Port Corporation and enterprises to receive and respond to information during the customs clearance process.

In addition, they have arranged priority areas for certain enterprises, cargo storage areas and routes for semi-trailer trucks.
