Shares retreat as large-caps fell

Shares failed to continue their rally due to the adjustment of some large-cap stocks on Tuesday morning.

 

The benchmark VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange lost 0.23 per cent to end the session at 991.32 points.

Some 89 million shares worth more than VND1.7 trillion (US$72.7 million) were traded on the southern market.

The VN-Index rose 0.17 per cent to close Monday at 993.57 points.

Vinhomes (VHM), PetroVietnam Gas JSC (GAS), Vinamilk (VNM), Vietnam Construction And Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (VCG), vicostone JSC (VCS) and PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PVS) put the biggest pressure on the market this morning. VHM decreased by 2.4 per cent to VNĐ85,800 per share. GAS decreased by 0.8 per cent to VND101,200 per share. VCG decreased 1.1 per cent to VNĐ26,300 per share.

Ten of the top 30 shares by market value and liquidity gained value and 14 lost. The other six remained unchanged.

By sector, insurance, securities, oil and gas, banking, healthcare, agriculture, information and technology, food and beverage, seafood processing, construction material were the losers this morning.

Those sectors lost between 0.04 and 1.1 per cent.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index dropped 0.15 per cent to end the morning at 105.89 points.

Some 16 million shares worth VND190 billion were exchanged.

The HNX-Index rose 0.74 per cent to end Monday at 106.05 points.

The afternoon session starts at 1pm.
