SBV revises down central rate

The State Bank of Vietnam today revised down the central reference rate between the dong and the U.S. dollar after the greenback had appreciated sharply the previous week, according to Nguoi Lao Dong Online website.

The central bank quoted the rate at VND23,047, down VND10 against last weekend, marking the first fall after five consecutive days of sharp rallies last week that saw the greenback rising by VND27 to reach an all-time high.

Meanwhile, local banks made mixed revisions of dollar prices during the day.

Vietcombank posted greenback prices at VND23,255 per dollar for buying and VND23,375 per dollar for selling, falling VND5 compared with last weekend and VND75 versus the peak of last week. By contrast, Eximbank traded the greenback at VND23,280 for buying and VND23,360 for selling, up VND30 against the previous session.

Sacombank, meanwhile, quoted dollar prices at VND23,200 and VND23,362 for buying and selling by account transfer, respectively. For cash transactions, the lender quoted the selling price at VND23,371, up VND41 compared with last weekend.

Domestic gold prices advanced slightly as local firms quoted the precious metal at VND36.23 million per tael for buying and VND36.4 million per tael for selling, up VND30,000 versus the end of last week. One tael is equal to 1.2 troy ounces.

On the world market, gold traded in a narrow range at some US$1,283 per ounce, equal to VND36.2 million per tael.
