Vietnam market edges up as large caps gain

The Vietnamese market advanced on Monday morning thanks to strong gains by large caps.

 

The benchmark VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange gained 0.41 per cent to close the morning session at 984.75 points.

It had shed 0.8 per cent last week to end at 980.76 points.

More than 82 million shares were traded for VND1.65 trillion (US$70 million) on Monday morning.

Market breadth was negative with 139 gainers, 149 decliners and 93 ending unchanged.

Finance, banking, real estate, and petroleum companies were the main driving force behind the gains.

Those sectors rose by 0.26-1.03 per cent, according to vietstock.vn.

The best performers in those sectors were Vinamilk (VNM), Masan Group (MSN) and Viet Nam Construction And Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (VCG).

In Ha Noi, the HNX-Index was up 0.19 per cent to 107.64 points.

More than 15 million shares were traded for VND207 billion.

It had closed last week at 107.44 points after losing 0.60 per cent.

The afternoon trading session starts at 1pm.
