Shares rebound on bluechip gains

Vietnamese shares rebounded on Wednesday morning thanks to the strong performances of some individual blue chips.

 

The benchmark VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange inched up 0.02 per cent to close at 977.41 points.

More than 90.7 million shares were traded on the southern bourse, worth VND1.9 trillion (US$83 million).

The VN-Index lost 0.58 per cent to end Tuesday at 977.17 points.

The VN30-Index, which tracks the performance of the 30 largest stocks by market capitalisation and liquidity, moved up 0.16 per cent to 889.17 points.

Sixteen of the stocks in the VN30 basket increased, including dairy firm Vinamilk (VNM), budget carrrier Vietjet Air (VJC), Vietcombank (VCB) and insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH).

Insurance, brokerage, property developers and petroleum were among the best-performing industries.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index climbed by 0.15 per cent to end at 107.28 points.

More than 18.5 million shares were traded on the northern bourse, worth VND244.5 billion.

The northern market index dropped 0.55 per cent to close Tuesday at 107.11 points.

The afternoon trading session starts at 1pm.
