More Italian firms tap Vietnamese market

The Italian booth, showcasing 22 Italian firms, is introducing the latest processing and packaging solutions and technologies for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries; food processing technologies; and packaging and conversion technologies at ProPak & Printech Vietnam 2019, taking place at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center in HCMC’s District 7 from March 19 to 21.

Paolo Lemma, Italian Trade Commissioner to Vietnam, said that most of the Italian exhibitors participating in the event have distributors, outlets, representative offices or branches in Vietnam. Further, these firms are seeking opportunities in the emerging market, as well as consolidating cooperative relationships with Vietnamese firms while looking for new partners.

In particular, the International Processing and Packaging Exhibition (ProPak Vietnam 2019) has attracted 17 Italian companies led by the Italian Packaging Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (UCIMA), all of which are designers and manufacturers of machinery used in the fields of processing, filling, capping and packaging.

In previous years, a large number of Italian packaging firms joined the Italian booth at the exhibition. This year, the number of enterprises specializing in the food processing industry, particularly in fruit and vegetable processing, has increased significantly.

This proves that ProPak Vietnam has provided cooperation opportunities to both Vietnamese and Italian enterprises, while many Vietnamese firms that produce and process fruit need to equip their production chains with modern Italian machinery and technologies to boost product quality.

Meanwhile, at Printech Vietnam 2019, five Italian firms are displaying their latest technologies for the printing, packaging and labeling fields.

Aldo Peretti, president of the Italian Manufacturers’ Association of Machinery for the Graphic, Converting and Paper Industry (ACIMGA), remarked that the strongly growing market of Vietnam has prompted more international and European companies to come for business.

“Vietnam, a country where the demand for new technologies increases every day, is a great challenge for us. Italian firms are ready to boost their presence in the Vietnamese market with our Industry 4.0 know-how and technologies,” Peretti stated.

Italy is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of graphic, paper and cardboard processing and conversion machinery. Italy is the world leader in manufacturing rotogravure and flexographic printing machinery, as well as machinery for paper and cardboard processing and conversions.

Most of the packaging machinery produced is purchased by food, beverage, alcoholic beverage, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and personal care goods producers. The rest is used by manufacturers of tobacco, chemicals/petrochemicals and tissues.

“In 2018, Italy remained one of the leading manufacturers in the packaging and printing industry. In the January-November period of 2018, the total export turnover of Italian packaging and printing machinery for the food, beverage and tobacco sectors amounted to some 3.9 billion euros, of which the value of equipment and machinery exported from Italy to Vietnam was posted at 25.2 million euros, up by 2.4% from 2017,” noted Lemma.

Under the auspices of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, the Italian Trade Agency has coordinated with UCIMA and ACIMGA to organize the Italian booth at ProPak & Printech Vietnam 2019.
