VIFA Expo 2019 to see record number of booths

Vietnam International Furniture and Home Accessories Fair, VIFA Expo 2019, which will take place from March 6 to March 9 in HCMC’s District 7, will feature a record number of booths at 2,420 ones, rising 23% year-on-year, from over 500 exhibitors.

Also, the event organizing board this year has recorded registration for participation from nearly 3,000 international visitors from 80 countries and territories, according to Huynh Van Hanh, vice president of the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of HCMC (HAWA), at a press briefing held on February 27 to introduce the expo.

Jointly held by HAWA, the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade and HAWA Corporation, this year’s event saw a 12% increase - and still counting - in the number of international visitors completing online registrations compared with those recorded last year. They come from countries and territories that are strong in the wood-working and supporting industries, including Singapore, Taiwan, the United States and Canada, said Hanh.

The furniture fair aims to bring together wooden products, handicrafts and furniture, along with relevant services, to cater to the needs of buyers around the world.

The expo takes place at a time the local wood-working industry is thriving, with exports of wood and wooden products rising strongly in recent years. Data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development show that exports of local forestry products earned US$9.3 billion last year, outstripping the earnings of the aquatic sector at US$9 billion.
