Vietjet (VJC) records better than expected 2018 business results
Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company reported air transport revenue of VND33,815 billion last year, rising 49% from the year earlier and exceeding its plan by 12%.
The local carrier said 2018 was a successful year, with total pre-tax profit amounting to VND5,830 billion.
Auxiliary products and services grew 57% over the same period and contributed nearly 27% to the airline's total revenues in 2018, increasing 2% year on year.
Vietjet operated 118,923 flights on 105 routes, including 39 domestic and 66 international routes, covering destinations in Vietnam and Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Cambodia and China.
The airline considers the expansion of its international network as a strategy to increase foreign sales of tickets, while taking advantage of lower fuel prices in international markets.
Last year, Vietjet began operating the new generation A321neo aircraft, which could save up to 16% in fuel costs, contributing to a decrease in Vietjet operating costs in the coming years. Vietjet's fleet includes 64 modern aircraft, with the youngest average age of just 2.82 years.
