Vietnam to attend Novartis regional stakeholder event in Singapore

Building on the series of global stakeholder dialogues, Novartis Social Business will be hosting its fourth event in Singapore on November 20, 2018.

More than 100 regional participants from Singapore, Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Nepal, Myanmar, Cambodia, and other countries are expected to attend the event, including global public health experts, representatives from governments, NGOs/IGOs, industry, KOLs, and partners, who will focus on finding ways to improve access to healthcare in lower-income countries in Asia, including Vietnam.

"We will discuss how public-private partnerships, digital health, innovative financing, and insurance solutions can help shape access to healthcare in Asia," said a Novartis Social Business (NSB) representative.

Top discussions will encompass the application of a business mindset to solve global public health issues, the burden of Non-Communicable Diseases and unconventional ways to address health needs in Asia, and public-private partnerships. The discussions will address questions on how we can co-create healthcare solutions to help governments improve Primary Healthcare as part of their Universal Health Coverage strategy and what role innovative financing solutions can play in improving access to healthcare, among others.

The event is a good opportunity for Vietnam to learn from partners’ experiences in dealing with these issues.

Despite the progress made in reducing poverty, billions of people still lack access to essential healthcare. That is why Novartis pursues a variety of approaches to create long-lasting solutions, including commercial solutions through Novartis Social Business, to support public health needs and increase patient reach.

These programmes provide a unique approach to different aspects of the challenge of access in the developing world. All of them generate value by building local, sustainable capabilities to increase the health and well-being of patients in lower-income countries. They also address societal problems that impact access to healthcare, including the need for education, infrastructure, and distribution.

In Vietnam, Novartis Social Business has implemented two programmes for quite a long time. NSB has experience in co-ordinating with the Department of Health to develop the Cung Song Khoe programme at the commune level. This programme was launched in 2012 to provide health awareness, education, and affordable quality medicines. To date, the Cung Song Khoe programme has reached more than 930,000 people, providing basic health education and screening for the prevention of diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
