Shares mixed during morning trade

Shares were mixed on Wednesday morning as large-cap prices varied significantly.

The VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange declined 0.58 per cent to 934.27 points by the end of the morning’s trade.

It lost 1.45 per cent to close at 939.68 points on Tuesday.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index inched up 0.03 per cent to end at 105.10 points.

The index dropped 2.3 per cent to end at 105.07 points on Tuesday.

Liquidity was modest with just 80 million shares worth a combined VND1.5 trillion (US$66 million) traded on the two markets.

Declining stocks dominated the market with a total of 213 stocks seeing prices fall, while 164 other stocks ended on a positive note.

Poor investor confidence continued to hit stocks on a large scale, led by large-caps after the VN30 Index fell 0.34 per cent to 904.89 points at the end of the session

Supporters of the market included Asia Commercial Bank (ACB), TPBank (TPB), Vietcombank (VCB), budget carrier Vietjet (VJC) and Viet Nam National Petroleum Group (PLX).

Meanwhile, many other large caps declined significantly, shaking the indices, such as Bảo Việt Holdings (BVH), PetroVietnam Gas JSC (GAS), Masan Group (MSN) and VPBank (VPB).

The afternoon trade starts at 1pm.
