Financial and oil stocks lift market

Shares rose higher on Friday morning on both national stock exchanges, propped up by financial, retail and food-beverage stocks.

 

The VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange edged up 0.54 per cent at 993.32 points.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index increased 0.8 per cent to 113.57 points.

Banks and securities companies were among the biggest gainers this morning.

Three biggest banks by total assets on the stock exchanges – Vietinbank (CTG), Vietcombank (VCB) and BIDV (BID) – gained between 0.7-2.3 per cent.

Large securities firms including Saigon Securities Inc (SSI), HCM Securities (HCM), Viet Capital Securities (VCI) and FPT Securities (FTS) all climbed 1-2 per cent.

Gainers also included Vinamilk (VNM), brewer Sabeco (SAB), Mobile World Group (MWG), FPT Corp (FPT) and Vincom Retail (VRE).

Oil stocks also recovered this morning with big companies like PV Gas (GAS), Petrolimex (PLX), PetroVietnam Drilling and Wells Service (PVD) and PetroVietnam Technical Services (PVS) rising between 0.7-2.3 per cent.

Market breadth was positive with 207 stocks rising, 172 falling and 365 closing flat.

A total of nearly 120 million shares worth VND2.6 trillion (US$111.6 million) were traded in the morning trade on the two markets.

The afternoon session starts at 1pm.
