Vietnam to have second Disneyland-esque amusement park project

Once construction begins, the amusement park in Bac Ninh will become the second Disneyland inspired park in Vietnam.

The Bac Ninh People’s Committee has approved a zoning plan with a scale of 1/2,000 for a large scale amusement park project with a 'Disneyland' theme to be built in Tien Du district and Tu Son town.

The project has a planning scope of about 1,600 hectares and a planned area of about 1,400 hectares together with an estimated population of roughly 80,000 people including the current population of Phu Lam, Noi Due, Tuong Giang, Tam Son and Lim towns. It will combine an urban area, ecological tourism, a culture zone, resort and an entertainment area.

The main attractions will be a large park and an amusement park following the theme of Disneyland, blended with cultural characteristics and symbols of Vietnam. The project will also include a housing area, agricultural and hi-tech agricultural research area.

The project aims to create a multi-functional urban area, meeting the needs of the province for socio-economic development and culture identity formation.

In September 2016, Sun Group held a ground-breaking ceremony for Kim Quy theme park featuring the north’s traditional culture and entertainment models of Universal Studios and Disneyland in Dong Anh district.

Covering more than 100 hectares, the international-standard park in Vinh Ngoc Commune has an initial investment of VND4.6 trillion ($209 million) invested by Sun Group.

Designed by ITEC Group, a world-leading US company specialising in designing parks, the park will include trees and water features arranged in a spiral shape inspired by the legend of the Co Loa spiral-shaped citadel (located in Hanoi’s Dong Anh district) built by King An Duong Vuong in the third century BC with the help of the Golden Turtle God.

Kim Quy Park will have some outstanding features, including a garden of green trees and a public park, providing open space for visitors to enjoy nature and participate in outdoor activities. Together with modern games applying cutting-edge technology, the park also comprises an art area and the Kim Quy cultural village where large-scale art shows will be hosted.

However, following the groundbreaking ceremony, as of March this year the project has been in limbo.
