Shares advance on both bourses

Shares advanced on the two main bourses on Friday morning, led by large caps.

 

On the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange, the VN-Index added 0.56 per cent to end at 935.34 points.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index increased 1.29 per cent to close at 105.93 points.

Overall market condition was positive with 230 shares rising, 165 declining and 347 closing unchanged on the two exchanges.

Large-cap stocks fueled the market rise.

Twenty two of the top 33 shares by market value and liquidity gained value and six slumped.

Gainers expanded many sectors, including banking-finance, construction and real estate, steel, retail and pharmaceutical.

The biggest gainers were FPT Corp (FPT) with growth of over 3 per cent. Big banks such as BIDV (BID), Vietinbank (CTG) and Military Bank (MBB) also increased 2.7 per cent each.

On the opposite side, food-beverage firms such as Vinamilk (VNM) and Sabeco (SAB) lost by nearly 1 per cent each.

Over 129 million shares worth a combined VND2.3 trillion (US$100 million) were traded on the two markets this morning.

The afternoon session starts at 1pm.
