VinFast reveals petrol and electric hatchback designs
After the sedan and SUV models, Vietnamese auto brand VinFast announced releasing an electric and a petrol-fuelled hatchback in late 2019.
On March 8, VinFast announced 36 small-d hatchback car designs, including 17 electric and 19 petrol models. They were created by automobile design studios ItalDesign, One One Lab, Pininfarina, and Torino Design. VinFast accelerates the launch of all four or three models by one yearto take place in late 2019.
VinFast is not afraid of manufacturing the first electric hatchback automobile in Vietnam. Big brands still stick to petrol cars, while some of them are researching hybrid models, with little success so far.
Nguyen Viet Quang, vice chairman and co-general director of Vingroup, said: "With a desire to create a breakthrough, we decided to manufacture electric cars."
Similar to the two previous models, the two new additions are also put up for a public vote on the website www.binhchonmauxe.vinfast.vn until March 18.
For electric cars, ItalDesign brought simple and delicate models, while Pininfarina took an angular and flexible approach, One One Lab dynamic and mannish. Meanwhile, the petrol-fuelled hatchback cars of ItalDesign are sporty, and Torino Design offers sharp and powerful models, and Pininfarina dynamic and strong ones.
With these two new models, VinFast breaks into two segments: the Sedan and SV are made for the premium segment, while the petrol and electric hatchbacks are for the economic segment. Vingroup harbours the great ambition of becoming the Made-in-Vietnam automobile manufacturer known around the world.
The construction of VinFast's factory was launched in September 2017 and is expected to be completed within ten months. Few days after the ground-breaking ceremony, the company announced outstanding high-level personnel contracts with former leader of Bosch Vietnam and global automobile firm GM. VinFast's sedan and SUV models dreamed up by Pinifarina will attend the Paris Motor Show next October.
VinFast expects to hold an exhibition in Vietnam to introduce its products to customers.
