Markets decline as large-cap stocks fall

Speculative stocks continued to attract investors on Tuesday morning, but both indices declined on the slump of large-cap stocks.

The VN Index on the HCM Stock Exchange inched down 0.12 per cent to 776.36 points.

Fifteen of the top 30 largest shares by market value and liquidity tumbled, and 11 advanced.

Losers include heavyweights such as Vinamilk, Vietcombank, Sabeco, Vietinbank, PV Gas, Masan Group, Hoa Sen Group, Novaland Investment and Saigon Securities Inc.

Cash continued to flow into speculative stocks in the real estate sector. Eight of the 10 most active stocks on the southern bourse were that of property firms, of which FLC Group and Hoang Quan Consulting-Trading-Service Real Estate JSC were leading with around 29 million shares and 23 million shares being traded, respectively. Others saw the trade of 2.5 million to 4.5 million shares.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX Index slipped down marginally by 0.06 per cent to close at 103.84 points.

A total of 179.2 million shares worth VND2.7 trillion (US$118.7 million) were traded in the two markets.

The afternoon session starts at 1pm.
