Laos, Thailand set to enhance trade, investment cooperation

The Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Thai Industries have agreed to expand their cooperation on trade and investment.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the cooperation was recently signed in Vientiane between President of Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) Mr Oudet Souvannavong, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) Mr Kalin

Sarasin and Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) Mr Chen Namchaisiri.
The event was attended by more than 40 delegates from both Laos and Thailand.
The FTI is a private sector legal entity under 1987’s Federation of Thai Industries Act which serves as the core organisation and centre for all Thai industries in the Kingdom of Thailand. The FTI is also a non-profit organisation that has represented Thai industries for over 49 years and supported the industry in developing sustainable growth for all operations.
Under the MoU between the groups, the LNCCI and the FTI, the groups will look to promote the electricity energy sector in Laos by helping to promote cross-border electricity energy sector cooperation between Thailand and Laos while encouraging the Thai government to promote investment in Laos’ electricity energy sector through Thai investors.
In addition, the FTI will support the development of education and the delivery of online e-commerce learning courses to the LNCCI as well as use its best efforts to promote a variety of e-commerce developments in Laos and encourage businesspeople of both countries to trade more often online.
Under the MoU between the LNCCI and the TCC, the two parties shall promote business relations and develop cooperation on trade, tourism, investment, and a young business network.
They shall also organise or participate in trade exhibitions and develop education and human resources together as well.
