Bank, pharma stocks lift VN Index

Shares rebounded on the HCM Stock Exchange on Friday as bank stocks regained momentum.

 

The benchmark VN Index was up 0.11 per cent at 742.69 points.

Four of the six listed lenders on the southern bourse advanced by more than one per cent each, including BIDV (BID), Vietinbank (CTG), Military Bank (MBB) and Eximbank (EIB).

Only Vietcombank (VCB) dropped by 0.54 per cent, while Sacombank (STB) remained unchanged.

Shares of Hau Giang Pharmaceutical (DHG) rose by six per cent as shareholders of the pharmaceutical firm received bonus shares at the rate of 50 per cent.

On the defensive side, big companies such as Vinamilk (VNM), FPT Corp (FPT), PV Gas (GAS), PetroVietnam Drilling and Wells Service (PVD) and Mobile World Group (MWG) slumped.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX Index inched 0.02 per cent down to 93.45 points.

A total of 134 million shares worth a combined VND2.6 trillion (US$115.3 million) were traded in the two markets.
