Over 35 Indian commercial, trade delegations visited Ho Chi Minh City last year
More than 35 commercial and trade delegations from India visited Ho Chi Minh City in 2016, Consul General of India Smita Pant said at a reception to commemorate the 68th Republic Day of India in the southern hub.
The event on Friday night was attended by leaders from Ho Chi Minh City and many provinces, including Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan, Tra Vinh, Binh Phuoc, Can Tho, Gia Lai, Phu Yen, Tay Ninh and Soc Trang.Speaking at the reception, Consul General Pant kept the guests informed of the significance of the Republic Day of India, which marks the coming into force of the Indian Constitution on January 26, 1950.
She delivered a thank you to the provinces of Ca Mau, Ninh Thuan, Soc Trang, Tay Ninh and Tien Giang for their participation in the India – CLMV (Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam-Myanmar) Business Conclave in Chennai in 2016.
She then revealed that the conclave in February this year will focus on agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture, heathcare, and more, and looked forward to great participation from Vietnam.
In her remarks, the consul general also mentioned the increasing interest of Indian investors in Vietnam, especially in the areas of thermal power, coffee, hi-tech agriculture in and around Ho Chi Minh City and other southern provinces.
Tran Vinh Tuyen, vice-chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said that Vietnam and India have regularly exchanged high-level visits, citing the visits of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2016 and Vietnamese National Assembly Vice-Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan in December that year.
Tuyen added that as the coordinator for ASEAN – India Dialogue Partnership, Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in specific will implement the diplomatic activities as mapped out in the framework to further strengthen the relations between India and ASEAN countries.
The reception commenced with traditional a lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by the national anthems of the two countries and a performance of the traditional Indian dance form Bharatnatyam.
One of the event’s highlights was a sand art performance depicting the journey of India – Vietnam relations.
