First 2017 aluminum hydroxyde exported

The Dak Nong Aluminium Company, part of the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), on Saturday exported 2017’s first shipment of aluminum hydroxyde to South Korea and Japan.

An amount of 11,600 tonnes of aluminum hydroxyde was sold to South Korea at US$140 per tonne, while 3,000 tonnes was shipped to Japan.

The company’s deputy director general, Ngo To Ninh, said this was the largest shipment since the plant rolled out its first batch of product in November 2016.

Aluminum hydroxyde is a chemical ingredient widely used in water treatment, detergents and flame retardants. The raw materials are sourced from bauxite mines.

According to experts, Viet Nam is one of the countries that is endowed with a rich potential of bauxite, with an estimated reserve of 11 billion tonnes, mainly in the Central Highlands region, especially in Dak Nong Province.

Currently, Vinacomin is also negotiating with partners to export 15,000-20,000 tonnes of other aluminum products to Japan.

Also under the management of Vinacomin in the province, construction of the Nhan Co Alumina Plant, which started in June 2007, has also been completed. It is expected to begin operating during the first quarter of the year, after finishing a test period.

The plant was built with an investment of VND16.8 trillion and has a designed capacity to produce 650,000 tonnes of aluminum per year.
