Employees in business sectors sharpen skills

Engineers, supervisors and officers from a variety of business sectors with fewer than five years of experience are now receiving professional employee development training in Vientiane.

The five-day long seminar is co-organised by the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCL) and the Overseas Human Resource and Industry Development Association (HIDA) from Japan.

The initiative called the Professional Employee Development Programme' kicked off on Monday and will conclude on Friday aiming at building capacity for employees of the business sector in the country that are newly-hired staff to managers.

This intensive training course draws attention to more than 30 trainees from various companies under the membership of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCL).

In her opening remarks, LNCCI Vice President Ms Valy Vetsaphong said this professional training programme was going to professionalise employees at various companies to ensure they are well-equipped with the skills needed to ease Asean Economic Community (AEC) integration.

The government is prioritising the development of human resource alongside the promotion of the strategic market. So professional employee development is one of the key factors that will lead the organisation into regional and international business competition, she said.

Meanwhile a regional officer from HIDA Mr Kondo Hitoshi said that the development of employees in most organisations was needed so these employees can help their companies to move forward more smoothly.

Employees themselves must also be upgraded with professional skills as a way to be successful in their jobs and careers, he said.

A collaboration between LNCCI and the Nippon-Keidanren International Cooperation Center (NICC) also came into existence in 2003; since then the members of LNCCI have been enjoying the support of NICC in the area of Human Resources Development.

NICC disbanded in March 2010 but LNCCI have still received the full support of both HIDA and the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS).

Courses during the seminar are centered around Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations (IR & HRM), Occupational Health and Safety Management, Work Environment Improvement and Technical Management Systems.
