Thailand still top-trading partner with Laos among Asean

Thailand is still the top trading partner with Laos among Asean countries and bilateral trade expands year-on-year.

In 2013, the combined import and export value from Laos to Thailand reached over US$5.6 billion, of which the export value was over US$1.3 billion while the import value reached US$3.7 billion.

The import and export value from Laos to Thailand in 2014-2015 reached US$4.1 billion, including US$1.5 billion of export values and over US$2.6 billion in imports.

The total import and export value from Laos to Thailand reached more than US$2.1 billion over the past six months of 2015-2016, of which export value totaled US$941 million while imports reached US$1.2 billion, according to a report from the Import and Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

Electricity remained as the top exported commodity at more than US$382 million. Copper and copper items ranked second with a total export bill of US$201 million.

Electricity products placed third and were valued at US$167 million, while cassava ranked fourth with an export bill of US$47 million.

Other goods exported to Thailand were land vehicles and spare parts valued at US$20 million, cabbage worth US$12 million, maize valued at US$8 million, fertiliser worth US$3.6 million, and processed and unprocessed coffee valued at US$4 million.

Total import and export values are expected to reach more than US$4 billion according to the annual plan, while the export value should be US$1.7 billion and the value of imports should reach US$2.3 billion.

Vietnam was the country's second largest trading partner over the past six months with a total import and export value of more than US$576 million.

Exports to Vietnam totaled US$332 million while imports were valued at US$244 million.

Laos exported goods to Cambodia valued at US$7.4 million kip while imported goods were valued at US$278,979.

The value of imports and exports from Laos to Malaysia was more than US$9 million, including US$3.3 million of export value and over US$5.7 million of imports.

Laos exported goods to Singapore valued at about US$2 million and imported goods at US$6.9 million.

Receipts from exports to the Philippines were valued at US$765,067 while payments for imports totaled US$306,030.

Export revenues from Laos to Myanmar stood at US$205,644 while payment for imports was valued at US$2,357.

Exports to Indonesia totaled US$13,270 while imports were valued at US$9.6 million.
