LTC celebrates 20 years of growth
For the past 20 years, the business operations of Lao Telecommunication Company (LTC) have continued to grow and improve and the operator has steadily gained the public's co nfidence.
The company has taken on a lot more subscribers and retained existing ones, Lao Telecom Managing Director Mr Thavone Somsakoun reported last week when speaking at the compan y's 20th anniversary celebrations.
The company's operations have grown by an average of 28.5 percent annually. LTC has given about 3,100 billion kip in royalties to the government, along with dividends of US$193.5 million to the government and shareholders, he added.
The company currently has 4,000 base stations of GSM 2G, 3G and 4G around the country and generates total income of 12,000 billion kip and a net profit of 3,500 billion kip, Mr Thavone said.
LTC has also contributed billions of kip towards social development such as building primary schools, donating educational equipment, and supporting important government meetings.
Meanwhile its business operations have improved thanks to better rules and policies governing employees' working conditions.
Also speaking on the occasion, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mr Thansamay Kommasith said he admired the company's great progress and the good services it provided to its customers through hi-tech systems.
He suggested that the company should continue to develop and expand so that it contributed further to socio-economic development. He stressed that LTC's leaders and employees should develop their own skills so as to become more competitive and make the company top among leaders in the telecoms industry.
But despite the company's continued growth there are still many challenges, especially from competitors in other Asean countries and further afield.
LTC should always develop and upgrade its technology so that it could meet customers' requirements both in terms of quality and quantity.
During the ceremony, Mr Thansamay represented the government in awarding a First Class Labour Medal to the company and Third Class Labour Medals to two shareholders who have contributed significantly to the company's operations.
The event was attended by the company's administrators, representatives of its agencies, and employees from around the country.
