Vietnam taxi firm shakes hands with restaurants to take drinkers home for free

A taxi firm in the Mekong Delta has collaborated with local restaurants to provide drunken customers with complimentary rides home with only a few strings attached.

A branch of Phu Quoc Taxi Company in Rach Gia City, Kien Giang Province, launched its new service on Monday morning, offering free transport to people who dine and drink at some partner restaurants.

According to Tran Ba Thang, chairman of the passenger transport company’s management board, the type of service has proved effective after being provided in several big cities across the country.

It is aimed at ensuring safety for customers after they have drunk beer and other alcoholic beverages, Thang stated.

Diners, who have their drinks at the partner eateries – namely Nam Nho, Ngoc Han, Hoa Bien, Gio Bien Restaurants, and Marina Karaoke Bar – and live in Rach Gia City, will be eligible for the service.

Drivers of the taxi firm have also been equipped with necessary skills and knowledge to provide care and ensure safety for drunken passengers.

According to Kieu Xuan Cuong, manager of Ngoc Han Diner, customers who meet all of the above requirements and wish to use the service can contact managers of the eateries to book a cab and seek detailed guidance.

They will then be provided with detailed guidelines and a ticket to enjoy the service, Cuong continued.

If diners arrive at the restaurants in their personal vehicles, their parking cards, along with some related information, will be given to staff there.

The vehicles will be kept safe at the places and returned to the owners after they come back to the restaurants the next day.
