Shares down on blue chips

Shares declined in morning trade on the two markets as large-cap shares tumbled. Money is flowing in mid-cap and penny shares.

The benchmark VN-Index on the HCM Stock Exchange was down 0.3 per cent to 685 points. It rallied 1.9 per cent in the last four trading days.

On the smaller exchange in Ha Noi, the HNX-Index also inched down 0.3 per cent to end at 85.2 points.

Many large companies tumbled this morning following strong gains last week, including the highest valued stocks such as dairy giant Vinamilk (VNM), insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), Vietcombank (VCB), private equity firm Masan Group (MSN) and PV Gas (GAS).

Traders focused on mid-cap and penny stocks such as Techno-Agricultural Supplying (TSC), furniture maker Duc Long Gia Lai Group (DLG), PetroVietnam Construction (PVX), Hoang Anh Gia Lai Agricultural JSC (HNG) and Quang Nam Rubber Investment JSC (VHG).

These stocks were among the most active codes this morning.

Over 85 million shares worth a combined VND1.15 trillion (US$51.5 million) were traded in the two markets.

Afternoon trade starts at 1pm.
