Discarded SIMs lead to decrease in users
The number of active SIM card users in Cambodia has decreased to 19.2 million from a late-2015 high of 21 million, Moa Chakyra, director-general of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication, was quoted as saying in state-owned media outlet AKP yesterday.
The decline was attributed to users of multiple SIM cards retiring “useless” cards and the government’s campaign to register SIM cards to individuals in an attempt to cut down on fraud, abuse and the potential for terrorism.
Chakyra added that only 7 to 8 percent of SIM cards remain unregistered.
