Stocks end mixed in early session

Vietnamese shares ended mixed in the early session, while investor confidence remained low over the market prospects.

 

The benchmark VN Index on the HCM Stock Exchange edged up 0.2 per cent to close at 628.88 points.

Hoang Anh Gia Lai JSC (HAG) and its subsidiary Hoang Anh Gia Lai International Agriculture JSC (HNG) jumped 3.9 per cent and 3.6 per cent, respectively, after HNG cleared market rumours about the company being delisted from the stock market.

Energy stocks such as PetroVietnam Gas Corp (GAS) and PetroVietnam Drilling and Well Service Corp (PVD) also made gains.

Vietcombank (VCB), property giant Vingroup JSC (VIC), and brokerage firms Sai Gon Securities Inc (SSI) and HCM City Securities Corp (HCM) rose between 0.4 per cent and one per cent.

The HNX Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange fell 0.3 per cent to close at 80.84 points.

Stocks that weighed on the northern market were Asia Commercial Bank (ACB), Sai Gon-Ha Noi Bank (SHB) and PetroVietnam Technical Service Corp (PVS).

Investors remained cautious, resulting in a trading volume of 64.4 million shares, worth VND1 trillion (US$45 million).
