Khammuan, Thai provinces discuss trade and investment opportunities

Adelegation from Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon and Mukdahan provinces of Thailand r ecently met with Khammuan province authorities to discuss trade and investment opportunities in the province.

The Thai delegation led by Deputy Governor of Nakhon Phanom province, Mr Pramuan Mungmard was warmly welcomed by the Deputy Governor of Khammuan province, Mr Bounmy Phimmasone.

During the meeting, Mr Bounmy reported the province's socio-economic development situation and potentials to the delegation, especially in relation to agriculture and forestry, energy and mines, tourism and transit services.

He also reported that the province's socio-economic development has continuously progressed, with the economy growing by 8.13 percent in 2014-2015.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached more than 5.8 trillion kip, while GDP per capita reached US$1,845.

There are a total of 56 domestic and foreign investment projects, most of which are in mining, hydropower, trades and services respectively.

The provincial Industry and Commerce Department's Mr Thongxay Mangnomek said they discussed various issues during the meeting.

In particu lar, the Thai side proposed that the province extend the closing time at the third Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge border crossing as there are currently more than 100 trucks transporting cement via across the bridge.

They also discussed visa issues, joint investment, and tourism promotion between the two countries, Mr Thongxay added.
