Revenue from customs and excise up 20 per cent

Revenue collected by the customs and excise department jumped nearly 20 per cent during the first six months of the year, compared with the same period a year earlier, figures released yesterday show.

Khun Nhoem, general director of the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), said his agency had already collected $883 million this year, 19.4 per cent year-on-year increase and more than 55 per cent of its target as outlined in the 2016 national budget.

The GDCE collected $1.58 million in revenue in 2015, a 17.4 per cent increase over the previous year.
