Lao banking students to train in Bangkok with Kasikornthai

Kasikornthai Bank in Laos has announced that it will accept some Lao students to undertake on-the-job training at the main office of Kasikornthai Bank in Bangkok, Thailand .

Bank officials announced the four lucky students who will be joining the project yesterday, with two students each coming from the National University of Laos and the Banking Institute in Vientiane.

Over 100 students in Vientiane applied for the programme while the bank's officials selected 12 for interview. Through the interview process, officials have chosen four students to join the programme.

The on-the-job training programme is set to run from June to August 2016, with the four students to live in Bangkok for the duration of the three month project.

The project has arranged their air tickets and hou sing and will cover other expenses during their stay in Bangkok, at a total cost of about 400,0 00 baht.

Head of the World Business Strategy Manageme nt Department of the Kasikornthai Bank in Thailand, Mr Chat Luangarpa, said the programme's activities focus on developing career advancement to serve current openings in Laos through different means, including job rotation and on-the-job training.

The main purpose of the programme is to train personnel to support the bank's operations in Laos, which will be expanded in the near future, said Mr Chat.

He noted that the Kasikornthai Bank only opened last year in Laos. Over that yearlong period, the bank has not only run its business but also focused on economic development, especially in education and human resource development.

Therefore, the bank has launched this programme to develop human resources in Laos. The selected students will undergo on-the-job training with the bank's staff in Thailand, after which they will return home to Laos to put that knowledge to use.

In the future the number of participating students may be increased, Mr Chat added.

He noted that commerce between Laos and Thailand is growing rapidly, which means Thailand is a top trading partner of Laos.

The bilateral trade value reached 193,200 million baht in 2015, while trade along the Laos-Thai bor der accounted for 90 percent of the trading value.
