Paddy rice hits target, but exports fall short

Cambodia has attained its target of paddy rice production, but remains far short of its rice export target, Prime Minister Hun Sen said yesterday.

“We succeeded in boosting the paddy rice production plan by transforming Cambodia from a food importer to a country with more than 5 million tonnes of paddy rice surplus or about 3 million tonnes of milled rice, but the export target of 1 million tonnes of milled rice in 2015 cannot be realised yet as only about 500,000 tonnes, or 50 per cent of the target, have been exported,” the prime minister said, according to state news agency AKP.
