Energy stocks lift VN-Index

Shares rebounded this morning on the HCM Stock Exchange, thanks to the recovery made by energy stocks, with the benchmark VN- Index increasing 0.7 per cent to end at 566 points.

Large oil and gas stocks, which pulled down the market yesterday, rallied this morning, including PV Gas (GAS), PetroVietnam Drilling and Wells Service (PVD), PetroVietnam Technical Service (PVS) and Petroleum Equipment Assembly and Metal Structure (PXS), besides PetroVietnam Drilling Mud (PVD), with the increases ranging between one per cent and three per cent.

Some other large-cap shares, such as Vietcombank (VCB), software producer FPT Corp (FPT) and insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), also rose slightly.

The gainers outnumbered the losers by 101 to 73, while 134 closed unchanged.

Liquidity improved, with 72.5 million shares, worth more than VND1.1 trillion (US$49.1 million), being traded by the end of the morning.

On the smaller exchange in Ha Noi, the HNX-Index closed unchanged at 78.76 points, with 17.6 million shares, worth VND264 billion ($11.8 million), changing hands.
