VN shares gain as global oil prices rise

Vietnamese shares made slight gains this morning on both local exchanges as global oil prices increased, boosting local energy stocks.

 

The benchmark VN Index on the HCM Stock Exchange closed almost flat at 609.29 points, and the HNX Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange inched up 0.3 per cent to end at 81.29 points.

The energy stocks index was up 0.9 per cent this morning, after the American benchmark crude West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose 2.5 per cent to trade at US$41.74 a barrel yesterday.

The largest energy stocks such as PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (GAS) rose 1.4 per cent, PetroVietnam Drilling and Well Services Corporation (PVD) jumped 2.2 per cent and PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PVS) gained one per cent.

Real-estate developers such as FLC Group (FLC), Vingroup JSC (VIC) and Phat Dat Real Estate Development JSC (PDR) were also major factors that lifted the market this morning.

The property developer index gained 0.8 per cent as FLC surged 3.7 per cent, VIC inched up 0.7 per cent and PDR rose 1.5 per cent.

FLC was also the most active stock, with more than 13 million of its shares being traded.

Both local exchanges traded more than 133 million shares, worth VND1.86 trillion ($82.6 million).
