Viet Nam suspends wheat import from Ukraine

The Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development, or MARD, suspended imports of wheat from Ukraine on November 12.

Ukraine's wheat has been found to be infected with Sitophilus Granarius Linnaeus, the wheat weevil, which is subject to Viet Nam's plant quarantine and resulted in the suspension of the wheat being imported.

The decision will become effective 60 days after the suspension was ordered.

MARD required the Plant Protection Department to closely supervise imported wheat before the suspension takes effect and inform Ukraine's plant quarantine agencies so they might take corrective measures.

The department will also examine and confirm that actions are being taken by Ukraine and report their findings to the MARD.
