With Vietnamese Women's Day approaching, the gift market is becoming busy, offering a wide range of gifts and services to satisfy all kinds of needs.
Since flowers remain among the most popular gifts on the occasion, which falls on October 20, florists are offering flower baskets at prices ranging from a few hundred thousand dong to over VND1 million (US$44.7).
But prices have not increased much compared to normal days, they assured.
An employee of a flower shop on Hai Ba Trung Street in HCM City's District 3 said the most popular flower baskets were those priced at VND200,000-300,000 ($8.9-13.3), with only a few ordering those costing VND500,000 ($22.3) and above.
Supermarkets and malls have launched programmes to attract customers.
The French-owned Big C supermarket chain has launched "Ton vinh ve dep Viet" (honouring Vietnamese beauty) at its 31 outlets around the country, offering discounts of up to 49 per cent on more than 1,000 items from 200 famous brands, including skincare and hair care products, cosmetics, fashion products, and accessories, and gifts until March 16.
It is selling gift boxes and baskets with pretty designs at prices ranging from VND37,900 to VND206,500.
Women customers will be offered free consultation on makeup, skincare, and hair-care at Big C outlets during the period.
Korean supermarket chain Lotte Mart is also offering attractive discounts on more than 1,200 products together with gifts until October 26. During weekends customers can buy makeup products at a 49 per cent discount.
It is also selling more than 100 kinds of gift sets at prices starting at VND39,000.
SC VivoCity shopping mall and cosmetics brands like THEFACESHOP, Sheryn and SkinFood are offering consultation on skincare and makeup from October 17 to 20, Phan Thanh Duy, according to its director.
The mall will present roses to 500 women customers on Vietnamese Women's Day, October 20.
Other supermarkets like Co.opmart and Maximark have also launched promotions targeted at female customers.
Fashion and souvenir shops on Nguyen Dinh Chieu and Le Van Sy streets in District 3, Nguyen Trai Street in District 5, and 3 Thang 2 Street in District 10 have put up signs offering promotions.
Spas and restaurants are also targeting women customers.
