The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has received the second of four Airbus A350-XWB aircraft scheduled to join the carrier’s fleet in 2015.
The plane, registered as VN-A887, departed from Toulouse, France at 18:30 on September 19 (local time) and landed at Noi Bai International Airport at 10:50 on September 20.
On the occasion, Vietnam Airlines offered to transport three tonnes of medical equipment donated by the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Purpan to the Hanoi Kidney Hospital free of charge.
Vietnam Airlines confirmed that the new Airbus planes would be used on services from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Paris and Seoul, in addition to flights between Vietnam’s two biggest cities.
The national flag carrier received its first wide-body Airbus A350-XWB on June 30. It is the second airline in the world and the first in Southeast Asia to operate the new A350 model.
Vietnam Airlines, in an effort to modernise its fleet, has announced its plans of buying 33 new planes, including 14 Airbus A350s, to be delivered between now and 2019.
The A350-XWB is the latest generation wide body airliner, featuring the most advanced technologies and breakthrough innovations in aerodynamics, light-weight materials and leading aircraft systems, according to Airbus.
The manufacturer adds these latest technologies translate into unrivalled levels of operational efficiency, with a 25% reduction in fuel burn and emissions in addition to significantly lower maintenance costs.
