US most important tourism investor in Vietnam

In recent years the US has become the leading foreign investor in Vietnam in the field of tourism, according to Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh.

Speaking at a meeting with the US Department of State within the framework of “Vietnam Cultural Days in the US”, Minister Tuan Anh expressed his appreciation to the US Government in coordinating and supporting the event, which has attracted many people.

He spoke highly of the sponsorship of the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation of cultural heritage preservation activities in Vietnam and the financial support for cultural, sports and tourism industries from non-government organizations.

The number of US tourists to Vietnam reached 301,100 in the first seven months of 2015, an increase of 5.6 per cent compared to the same period last year. The Vietnamese Government is committed to creating favorable conditions for US visitors by increasing the maximum visa period for US citizens from three months to one year. In 2017 Vietnam expects to welcome 1 million US visitors.

In terms of tourism development, Minister Tuan Anh suggested that the two sides sign tourism cooperation agreements at the government level and facilitate tourism associations and businesses from the two countries to cooperate, exchange information, and share experiences in the management and development of tourism.

Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Mr. Richard Stengel, also spoke of the important role of promoting cultural, sports and tourism cooperation to enhance mutual understanding between the two countries through artistic performances, concerts, exhibitions, and other sports and cultural events.
