Gas stocks lift market

Vietnamese shares, especially gas stocks, lifted the market this morning.

 

On the HCM Stock Exchange, the benchmark VN Index gained 1.84 per cent to temporarily stand at 539.74 points.

All gas firms, including Petrovietnam Gas JSC (GAS) and Petrovietnam Drilling and Well Service Corporation (PVD), rose sharply as they hit their limited increase of seven per cent in market value.

The Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BID) gained 2.45 per cent, Viet Nam Dairy Products JSC (VNM) was up 2.6 per cent and Vietcombank rose 2.24 per cent.

Speculative stocks, especially HAI Agrochem JSC (HAI) and FLC Group (FLC), remained attractive to investors.

These shares gained 5.5 per cent and 4.92 per cent in market value, and traded more 4.1 million and 5.8 million shares, respectively.

Market liquidity was low, with more than 59 million shares being traded, worth VND976.22 billion (US$43.4 million).

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX Index was up 1.44 per cent to close at 75.08 points.

Gas firms on the northern bourse recovered to lift the market, just as on the southern bourse.

Petroleum Technical Services Corp. (PVS) was up 6.9 per cent and Drilling Mud Corp. (PVC) rose 9.88 per cent in market value.

KLF was also the most active stock, with nearly three million of its shares being traded, gaining 7.32 per cent.

More than 22 million shares were traded, worth VND211 billion ($9.4 million).
